“the artist and his work”

Architectural Fantasy

In the late eighties, Barbetta entered into a joint venture with McGraw-Hill to create a series of paintings to be published as fine art prints for distribution through one of their magazines, Engineering News Record (ENR), which serves engineers, contractors, and architects throughout the world. It was also promoted in Architectural Record and Business Week Called the ENR collector series, the first two editions, starting in October, 1990 with BRIDGES and followed by HIGHWAYS in 1991, have been collected by hundreds of individuals and companies in the United States and 29 other countries.

The painting, SKYSCRAPERS/BUILDINGS was published in 1992 and received the same excellent reception all over the world by new collectors as well as those who had purchased BRIDGES and HIGHWAYS.

In addition to their distribution worldwide, BRIDGES and HIGHWAYS captured the attention of the New York City Department of Transportation which led to his participation in a number of their awareness and image programs. a framed copy of BRIDGES, which now hangs in the conference room of the NYC D.O.T. was presented to NYC Commissioner of Transportation, Lucius Riccio, on behalf of a ceremony commemorating the 108th birthday of the Brooklyn Bridge, May 23rd,1991.

On June 25th, he unveiled his original painting of HIGHWAYS at a cocktail party at Le Pactole restaurant in the World Financial Center, to kick off the NYC Department of Transportation’s highway beautification program.

The sale of the prints has continued through the years and are now being distributed by ArtStarGroup LLC.

The Prism Litho Collection

The prints in The Prism Collection were based upon early sketches which were also used as the basis for some of Barbetta’s oils. Consisting of a suite of six prints, the work, including the drawing as well as the printing were produced at George Miller & Son, New York City, an atelier steeped in tradition, over a period of two years. Begun in 1917, and now in its third generation of Millers, they produced work for such artists as Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, and Reginald Marsh. All were drawn on Belgian stones and hand pulled on Arches and Rives BFK paper, two of the very finest papers available for limited edition lithographs, and all are pencil signed and numbered. Each print has its own special, soft and subtle coloring.
